Heavy Seas Yule Tide Belgian Style Tripel Ale

Heavy Seas Yule TideTHE POUR: Heavy Seas/Clipper City Brewing’s Yule Tide poured very bronzish, with a quickly diminishing 1/2 inch head.

THE AROMA: Sweet banana/apple scent, much like most Tripels. Very yeasty aromas. The 10% abv is present.

THE TASTE: Very thick and malty mouth-feel for a Belgian Triple. Almost syrup like. Again, the alcohol is very apparent. The initial taste is very sweet and fruity, with hints of apple and apricot. Alcohol and malty finish.

THE DECISION: I found this beer to be a bit of a disappointment, yet I am not a huge Tripel fan in the first place. I think that the abv could have been slightly lowered, and the yeast slightly less sweet. Mouth-feel was thicker than I would have liked, as well. Overall, worth trying, but I will not be buying this again.

THE GRADE: C
